Date Night, Destination Unknown: A Free Game to Plan Your 2027 Vacation

Let's be honest: "Where should we go next year?" is a fun question for about four minutes. Then one of you wants beaches, the other wants mountains, someone says "I don't care, you pick," and somehow you end up back where you've already been because it feels "easy".

This year, let's make deciding part of the fun.

I created Passport to 2027, a free printable game for couples. Pour a glass of something, spread out your psyop snacks (more about that later), grab two pens, and turn date night into a friendly tournament that ends with a real destination and a signed boarding pass.

How it works

Round 1: This or That. You start with twelve quick-fire choices: Sand between our toes or snow on the peaks? Every hour planned or total wing-it? Street-food crawl or white-tablecloth dinner? You both answer at the same time, so nobody can just copy the other. Count your matches to find your shared travel vibe. Your score tells you whether you're Travel Soulmates or Opposites Who Should Take Turns Deciding.

Round 2: The Draft. Fold the page in half. Each of you secretly writes down four dream destinations, then you reveal them on the count of three. If you wrote down the same place, it gets a gold star. Stuck? There's an idea list to borrow from.

Round 3: The Bracket. Your eight picks face off, March Madness style. Each of you pitches your places, then you both vote. A split vote goes to the Tiebreaker Menu, where you settle it with a Pitch-Off, a Menu Sprint, or a good old-fashioned thumb war.

Round 4: Final Boarding. Now phones are allowed. Take ten minutes to check weather and prices, then score your two finalists on budget, food, romance factor, and gut feeling (which counts double). This is where your snacks can help sway your partner towards your preferred destination. The winner goes on your official boarding pass, which you both sign and send to me.

Bonus Round: How We Want to Travel. Once you know where, decide how. Rank car, train, ocean cruise, river cruise, and group tour, and find the style that fits you both.

Plus, each of you gets four Power Cards to play strategically: Veto, Wild Card, Sweeten the Deal, and Lifeline. There's nothing like watching your partner use their Veto on your Iceland pick to keep things interesting.

Make it a night

  • Print the game and cut out the Power Cards before you start.

  • Grab two different-colored pens and a coin.

  • Bonus points for snacks from a place you'd love to visit: chips and salsa for Mexico, pastries for Denmark, a cheese board for Italy. Start the pitch with your partner's stomach like some sneaky psyop!

  • Plan on 60 to 90 minutes of laughing, debating, and dreaming.

Ready to plan this trip?

When you've signed that boarding pass, send it my way. I'd love to help you turn it into a real itinerary, from the flights and hotels to the small extras that make a trip unforgettable. Whether you land on a river cruise through Europe, a bullet train through Japan or a road trip through national parks, I'll take care of the details so you can just enjoy the countdown.

Happy travels (and may the best destination win)!
